I believe in God as revealed in the Christian Bible as identified below and that no tradition or practice of any Church is authoritative unless it is clearly supported by that Bible. I do not claim all my understandings at any point in time are fully correct as I accept that God will reveal truths to us as He determines we are ready for them and I stand ready to be corrected on any point, provided such correction is fully supported by scripture.
I believe the originals of the scriptures contained in the Old Testament of the Christian Bible were fully inspired and delivered by God in revelation through various prophets
2Pe 1:20 Knowing this first, that no prophecy of the scripture is of any private interpretation.
2Pe 1:21 For the prophecy came not in old time by the will of man: but holy men of God spake as they were moved by the Holy Ghost.
but what we have today is the result of human copying over many centuries and contains some errors, depending on which translation of the Bible is considered. Using the King James version, such errors are very minor, do not affect basic doctrine and can easily be checked by reference to other passages of scripture. The New International Version (especially with footnotes giving possible alternative text sources) is slightly more accurate and in more modern English and I understand the English Standard version (favoured in the USA) is similar. No bible can claim to be the fully inspired word of God but the better ones are 99% so.
For reasons I have given in the section "Authority of Scripture", I prefer the Septuagint version of the Old Testament as being the most reliable.
The New Testament was compiled by well intentioned men under pressure from the Roman Emperor early in the 4th century AD (Constantine). Most of the content is the work of Apostles, regarding which Jesus said to them and certain other disciples
Joh 14:26 But the Comforter, which is the Holy Ghost, whom the Father will send in my name, he shall teach you all things, and bring all things to your remembrance, whatsoever I have said unto you.
Therefore, the books authored by members of that group are "Inspired". One obvious person absent from that group is Luke, so one cannot deduce doctrine from items which appear solely in his two books. (Luke's Gospel and the Acts.)
I am a Bible Believing Christian, protestant, non-conformist. I believe in the right of all to hold any spiritual belief without threat of any kind from others, provided such beliefs respect the right of others to peacefully continue in their beliefs. Each person's beliefs are a matter between them and God but no one can avoid the consequences of their belief, of which God alone is the Judge. I believe I have a duty to point out to others any dangers I see arising from their beliefs or actions but God alone is the judge thereof. I acknowledge that, from time to time, God may make me aware of other people's problems and place me in a situation where I may assist, when, by His grace and strength, I will respond. I am not a "Conscientious Objector" and have served in the army. Although I prefer to live in an ecologically efficient manner, I am not worried about the fate of the planet, as I believe that God is fully capable of dealing with that.
